If you’re feeling that late-pregnancy restlessness, please know that you aren’t alone. Whether this is your first birth or your third, it is perfectly natural to feel a mix of anticipation and a deep "readiness" to finally meet your little one.

At the Prenatal Massage and Movement Center, our team believes the final weeks are a sacred transition. Serving families throughout Manhattan, we specialize in helping your body shift from the "holding" phase of pregnancy into the "opening" phase of labor. Our signature Labor Enhancement Massage & Movement session is an intentional, evidence-based way for New York birthing parents to honor their body’s wisdom while proactively preparing for the big day.

What is Labor Enhancement?

This isn’t your typical prenatal massage; it is a 90-minute, multi-phase birth preparation tool. This session is rooted in the physiological "why" of birth and has been perfected over 25+ years of experience. We utilize two intentional phases:

The Movement Phase

Using the Spinning Babies and the structural foundations of the Body Ready Method®, we focus on movements and the biomechanics of your pelvis. By gently balancing the pelvic muscles and ligaments, we help release any tension, twisting', or imbalances in the uterus. This creates a "clear path" for your baby to navigate the pelvic inlet and engage in an optimal position.

The Bodywork Phase

Once your body is aligned, we move to massage to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system. We use targeted acupressure, gentle stretching and massage techniques to lower cortisol levels. When your body feels safe and relaxed, it allows the "love hormone," oxytocin, to flow—the primary driver of effective labor.

How Do Labor Enhancement Sessions Differ from a Prenatal Massage?

Many of our Manhattan clients ask why they should choose this specialized session over a prenatal massage as they approach the 38-week mark. While both are restorative, they serve very different physiological purposes.

A prenatal massage is designed for general pregnancy support and comfort. It focuses on "unwinding" the nervous system and soothing the common aches of a growing belly—such as lower back tension or sciatica—using a blend of specialised massage techniques.

In contrast, the Labor Enhancement & Movement session is a proactive birth-priming tool reserved for 38 weeks gestation or later. We begin with active, movement based techniques to enhance alignment and positioning of the baby in preparation for birth. While a prenatal massage carefully avoids "trigger points" associated with labor, this session intentionally stimulates targeted acupressure points to encourage the cervix to soften and the uterus to surge. We are strategically removing the physical and hormonal "brakes" so your body can do what it knows to do.

While a prenatal massage says "rest," this Labor Enhancement session says "prepare and open."

Who is a Labor Enhancement Massage & Movement session for?

This session is a gift to yourself if you are:

  • At 38 weeks gestation or later.

  • Hoping to encourage a natural start to labor and avoid medical induction.

  • Navigating "stop-and-start" (prodromal) labor and looking for consistency.

  • Feeling physical "heaviness" and wanting to create more space for your baby.

What Our New York Clients Say

There is nothing more inspiring than hearing the stories of the families we’ve supported. Our clients often find that once the physical "obstacles" are removed, their bodies are ready to take the lead.

Anne and the Prenatal Massage Center are now 2/2 on helping me go into and have a successful labor and delivery. Both times I visited... I went into labor the same night and had my babies the next day.

I love love love Anne! I went to her for both my babies and my first baby’s labor started 2 HOURS after the massage, my second baby after 24 hours. I swear by her to all my friends!

... It helped me A LOT when I had my first baby! My baby boy came out in the blink of an eye… that was how fast and smooth it was. I was so happy and the whole delivery process was just so pleasant. Thank you Anne, it’s definitely better with your help a day before my big day

Each time, at the appointment before my due date, we worked on pressure points... and, each time, my water broke a few days later (and before the due date in each instance).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Every body is unique! As our reviews show, some clients go into labor within 2 to 24 hours, while for others, it may take 2 to 3 days. The goal is to optimise your body’s readiness, while letting your hormones do the rest when the timing is right. While labor may start soon after for some of our clients we never force labor or guarantee that it will start following your session.

  • You can receive this massage right up until the moment you go into labor! Many of our clients visit us on their actual due date or even several days past it to help stay relaxed and physically comfortable.

*Safety Note: Your well-being is our priority. We may be unable to schedule this session if you have signs of high-risk complications such as pre-eclampsia, bleeding, or high blood pressure.
